I am new to this forum, so I'll take a stab at it. I'm curious to know if a massage therapist and a chiropractor could be made readily available at the world to help pitchers with aches and pains, stretching etc.?  Shocked

I know that there is Physical Therapy School in Cedar Rapids, maybe the NHPA can get the school to let their students practice on the pitchers for a few weeks as part of their training free of charge? Huh Wink Grin

these types of services are provided by the host facility,  contact the local CVB and ask if they will make one available,
I have used them many times at other events.  sure helps get rid of the aches and stress by the time i get to the second week of the event.

The answer is yes. I have a daughter and sister-in law who are licensed massage therapists. My siister-in-law lives just outside Ceder Rapids. Both have agreed to provide massage services. My daughter and I live 2 hours away, so I need to make it worth her while as she will have to take time off work. It should be easier for my sister-in-law.

Our biggest question is how much demand will there be?  Right now we're thinking that in between sessions would be the time to offer massages, maybe an hour or so before the session starts. What do you think? There should be a locker room available to use.

Typical fees, which are $35.00 per half hour, $60, maybe $65 for an hour, can't remember for sure.

Please help me determine if there is going to be demand. Once we decide on a schedule I'll post it on the Iowa website http://www.ihhpa.com/

Thanks

a full massage is not what is usually provided,  simple chair massage and a fee of about 10 bucks has been typical in the past

I wish I could pay $10 for a good chair massage.  A typical one in the Xpress Spas in many of the nation's airports are about $2 a minute (if you break it down).  I  would gladly pay that amount for one at the tourney, but I know how frugal horseshoe pitchers are, so they might have to go a bit cheaper than that.  You can put me down for one a day for the hopefully 7 days that I play the second week (key word is hopefully).

Chair massages were offered in Pocatello - right out on the pitching floor!  As I recall, all appointment slots were full every day they were offered.

They were offered during the pitching sessions, as well as in between.

I believe the therapists will increase their demand by having these sessions in a public area rather than hidden in a locker room.

I know I will visit them more than once if they are there!

Thanks for the input. One dollar per minute is a typical fee. I'll talk to Steph, my daughter and Candy my sister-in-law and ask if $1.00 per minute works regardless of time needed. If you only want a 10 minute massage that's what you'll get. Having them available out in the open is a good idea. Maybe we could also use one of the locker rooms if someone requests a full massage. Keep the input coming. I'm sure we can work something out.
