Do we know what kind of "clay" will be used at Cedar Rapids?   I hope it is as good as that used in Springfield.

I understand that the clay has arrived in Cedar Rapids. The courts at the Amana campgrounds will have this clay installed. This clay is not the exact same as Springfield had, but I'm told it looks and performs about the same. I'm confidant everyone will be happy with the clay this year.

stories going around last year were nhpa was going to keep the clay from springfield and make it available each year for W.T. ??   Was that not true, or did things just not turn out like they should have?

I think the cost to store and transport would make that unlikely.

What happens to the clay when the tournament is completed?... Can it be purchased or donated to horseshoe clubs?...

Howard
Last year in Springfield they gave the clay to the individual court sponsors, and there was no more clay available. In other years I know that the clay was sold to anyone who wanted it. I'm not sure what the plans are for the clay this year, but the folks who would know would be Ralph Palmer or Leroy Law.
good luck

:)As soon as anyone at the Arena gets to pitch a few, how about giving us an assessment on the clay. Thanks.

The clay appears to be the same as last year's. It looks the same and I've heard several pitchers say it's the same stuff. Saturday's "warm up" tournament will get it worked into superb pitching condition.

Cheesy Not sure if this year's clay is exactly the same as we had in Springfield, but it is so very, very close.  With proper maintenence by the players, it will be excellent.

RINGERS TO EVERYONE!!
