Results of 2012 HOF Voting

I am pleased to announce there will be an induction into the Hall of Fame as a result of the 2012 voting.  The committee has elected Will Gullickson from the promoter/organizer category.

Will was active many years ago, so the newer people will not have heard of him, but he is very deserving of the award for his promotion of the sport throughout several decades.  He was very instrumental in securing the 1967 and 1981 World Tournaments.  As a newspaper columnist, he gave the sport much publicity and he also helped organize clubs and leagues in several states.  There are other things he did, but I will save that for the article in NEWSLINE.

Hopefully some of Will's family members will be able to attend the banquet to accept his award.

Who were the nominees for the HOF this year? As you see with all professionals sports ( MLB, NFL, NBA, MLS, NASCAR), there is usually a tally of how close each member was to making the HOF. I would be interested in seeing the list of nominees and the final votes. I don't subscribe to the Newsline so I don't have that to look at if this information is made available there.

I did not get an article into NEWSLINE this year with a list of the nominees.  The ballot for the Players category contained the names of:  Harold Anthony, Charles Bobbitt, Ron Deckard, Mike DiMartino, Harvey Elmerson, Connie Filley, Paul LaCrosse, Monte Latino, John Lindmeier, Loren May, Spud Napier, Rivers Prewette, Marlene Ray, Ron Simmons, Ralph Simon, Roy Smith and Roger Vogel.

The ballot for the Promoter/Organizer contained the names of:  Charles Bunner, Frank Crum, Alex Cummings, Alvin Dahlene, Will Gullickson, Harry G. Haynes, Glenn Jamieson, Genevieve Lavett, Dennis Ohms, Gary Roberts, Dan Sanders, Lorraine Sternberg, Steve Summerlin and William Weis.

The Hall of Fame committee does not release vote totals to the public.  To be elected a candidate must receive 20% of the total points voted in that category.  Each of our 15 committee members has 15 points to cast in each category in increments of 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 point.  Committee members who are on the ballot, or their relatives, must abstain from voting in that category.  Therefore, there is not always 225 points cast in a category.  Names remain on the ballot as long as they receive at least one point each year.  If a candidate goes two consecutive years without receiving any points, their name is removed from the ballot.  They can be renominated in some future year.
