Player: Fred Brust of Columbus, Ohio, won the Men’s World
Championship in 1919. Besides his
championship, Fred had two third place finishes in World Tournament
competition. He was one of the
founding fathers of the NHPA when it was formed and organized in 1921. He also developed the Ohio pitching shoe
and founded the Ohio Horseshoe Company that was one of the top selling
tournament shoes for over 70 years.
He ran the Ohio Horseshoe Company until 1950, when he sold the
business. Fred passed away in May
1971 at age 85.
