It will be determined at the council meeting in Jan 2005 as both bidders withdrew their bidsPRESS RELEASEThe National Horseshoe Pitchers Association announces the 80th Annual World Horseshoe Pitching Championships to be held in Pocatello, Idaho July 26, through August 7, 2004. Pitchers will compete for $127,000 in prize money. There are 1,201 pitchers entered, including 8 children less than 9 years of age. The youngest being Travis Sluys of Santa Rosa, CA at age 6, and the oldest being Oliver Lee of Minot, ND at 86 years of age. There is one pitcher from Norway and one from Japan entered in this event. Dawn Charron of MT. is also a soldier currently stationed in Iraq scheduled to pitch on August 2, 3, & 4, if she can get home in time? There are 95 pitchers from Pocatello, ID entered, the largest contingent of any host city in the history of the World Horseshoe Pitching Championships. Champions will be crowned in the following Divisions; Men, Women, Senior Men, Senior Women, Elders (over 70 yrs. of age) Junior Boys, Junior Girls. Entries from 47 US states and 6 Canadian Provinces will vie for the crowns. Present Men’s Champion Alan Francis of Ohio will be present to defend his crown as will Sylvianne Moisan, Women’s Champion of Quebec, Canada. The hosting facility will boast 48 regulation clay courts at the Idaho State University’s Holt Arena the first indoor college football stadium in the nation.
